On 11 September 2013, in Beijing, PRC, Prof Wang Xian 王宪, Vice President of PUHSC (Peking University Health Science Center, 北京大学医学部), Prof Huo Yong 霍勇, Chief, Cardiovascular Division of Peking University, and Dr Jean-Philippe Seta, CEO of Servier, signed an agreement establishing the “Beijing University & Servier Cardiologist Development Foundation” “北京大学施维雅心血管内科发展基金.”

This Foundation covers various aspects of cooperation on a yearly basis for a period of 3 years, including a scholarship grant to sponsor 3 cardiologists to visit French hospitals, attendance of 5 senior cardiologists at the ESC (European Society of Cardiology) Congress, and sponsorship of 5 pilot research projects.

Stressing that “cardiovascular diseases remain the number one cause of death throughout the world claiming close to 20 million lives each year,” Dr Jean-Philippe Seta concluded his speech at the signature ceremony by stating: “Servier believes that these projects are crucial for the acquisition and spread of knowledge and experience from which patients ultimately are the prime beneficiaries.” Servier hopes that this agreement will contribute to strengthening the ties between Chinese and French cardiologists as well as between PUHSC and Servier.
